Moscow 11-graders are switching to a new format for preparing for the Unified State Examination

MOSCOW, Feb 1 – Novosti. Eleventh-graders of most metropolitan schools are switching to a new format of preparation for the Unified State Exam (USE) from February 1, now students will more intensively study the subjects they have chosen for the exam.
From Wednesday, a pilot project on flexible curricula will start in the capital’s schools. As specified by Novosti in the Department of Education of Moscow , 407 out of 500 schools are participating in the project. The students of these institutions have already completed the entire basic curriculum in non-core subjects before February 1.

As part of the new project, students will attend workshops in groups in the subjects they need for admission. They will allow the children to prepare for the very procedure of the exam, work out complex questions in subjects, and also systematize the studied material. So, at the workshops, students will analyze the tasks of the exam and will be able to work out any problematic topics.
Groups for organizing workshops are formed in accordance with the level of preparation of schoolchildren and their focus on the result of the exam; for this, diagnostics and “trial USE” were carried out. At the same time, all schoolchildren will study in their former classes, and not in groups, the subjects necessary for personal development and maintaining health: mathematics, history, social studies, literature and physical education. Mandatory for all will be a workshop in the Russian language. Students of specialized and pre-professional classes will continue to study core subjects according to the program until the end of the academic year.
As emphasized in the Department of Education, the schedule of beginning, ending and duration of lessons remain the same, the number of lessons per week in subjects will also not increase.
They also noted that this format for preparing for the exam was developed at the request of parents and students. As the results of a survey of parents showed, in the second half of the year, the majority of 11-graders are purposefully preparing for the USE, paying much more attention to their core subjects than to non-core ones.
