WASHINGTON, October 1 – Novosti. US authorities are beginning to assess the damage caused by Hurricane Ian that hit Florida, believing that it could become one of the most destructive in the history of the country, US President Joe Biden said on Saturday.
“We are beginning to assess the extent of the devastation in Florida, which is likely to be some of the worst in the history of the country. Our hearts go out for the people whose lives were destroyed due to this storm. We are with you. And we will stay with you for so long, as long as it takes,” the head of state wrote on his presidential Twitter account .
Hurricane Ian has killed at least 42 people in Florida, leaving about 1.3 million consumers without power in the state, according to the latest data. The rampage of the elements provoked large-scale destruction in the state, paralyzed the work of telecommunications networks and airports.
State Governor Ron DeSantis previously called the damage to his region from the hurricane “historic”, and described the flood of one of the local rivers as an event that happens once every five thousand years.
