
MOSCOW, October 1 – Novosti. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has condemned the military group’s seizure of power in Burkina Faso.
“ECOWAS condemns in the strongest possible terms the violent takeover of power that took place on Friday, 30 September 2022, in Burkina Faso. ECOWAS considers this new coup untimely as progress has been made, thanks to ECOWAS diplomacy and efforts, for an orderly return to constitutional order no later than July 1, 2024,” the organization’s Twitter account said in a statement.
Earlier, the media reported that a military group in Burkina Faso, led by Captain Ibrahim Traore, announced the removal of the head of the country’s transitional government, Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, the suspension of the constitution in the country, the dissolution of the government and the closure of borders.
Rebels in Burkina Faso seized power on January 24 on behalf of the Patriot Movement for Preservation and Restoration, led by Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, 41.
