UN, October 1 – Novosti. France, which chairs the UN Security Council, made a scandal at the meeting, not allowing the official representative of Gazprom, Sergei Kupriyanov, to speak, Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the organization , said in a Telegram channel.
On Friday, at the UN Security Council, at the initiative of Russia, a meeting was held on the situation with the terrorist attacks on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 lines. Kupriyanov made a presentation. At the end of the meeting, he wanted to voice his comments on what he had heard, but the permanent representative of France, Nicolas de Riviere , did not give him such an opportunity.
“The end of the meeting was overshadowed by a scandal involving France’s permanent representative Nicolas de Riviere. Apparently, having broken down due to the unconvincing criticism of the Western camp regarding our approaches, he, in violation of any norms and practices of the Security Council, did not allow Gazprom’s press secretary Sergey Kupriyanov to answer the incorrect voices accusations against this company,” Polyansky said.
Thus, the French presidency has completely exposed itself, since earlier calls for dialogue and for taking into account other people’s opinions were their hallmark, the diplomat added.
“And when it came down to it, it all came down to a banal attempt to shut up the speaker,” he stressed.
According to Polyansky, the opponents did not expect that Russia, instead of accusations, would provide undeniable facts and ask “to turn on your head and reason logically.”
“Therefore, they looked faded and confused. The meeting was useful in terms of promoting our approaches and objective information, but left no doubt that the Western members of the Council <…> will do everything to wind up a fair and impartial investigation <… > and promote the absurd logic that Russia is behind the sabotage. We should have no illusions about this,” the deputy representative concluded.
A gas leak was discovered on September 26 at once on two Russian export gas pipelines – Nord Stream and Nord Stream – 2 . According to the operator Nord Stream AG, the accident is unprecedented and it is impossible to estimate the timeframe for repairs.
The seismic center of Sweden recorded powerful underwater explosions in the area of leaks. The authorities of Germany and Denmark do not exclude that the cause of the emergency was sabotage.
Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that NATO conducted exercises using deep-sea equipment in the area where the Nord Stream incidents occurred.
The Kremlin called the incident an act of international terrorism. According to President Vladimir Putin, “sanctions are not enough for the Anglo-Saxons,” they have begun to destroy the pan-European energy infrastructure.
The work of Nord Stream has been suspended since late August due to problems with the repair of Siemens turbines after the imposition of anti-Russian sanctions, but the pipeline remained filled with gas. Nord Stream 2, completed last year but never put into operation, has also already been filled with blue fuel.
