WARSAW, October 1 – Novosti. The pumping of natural gas through the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline from the Norwegian shelf to Poland has begun, according to the Polish operator GAZ-System.
“As promised more than 6 years ago, we kept our word. Today, gas transmission to Poland via the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline began,” the message says.
The company clarified that at first the volume of gas pumping will be 62.4 million cubic meters per day.
The Baltic Pipe gas pipeline, laid between Norway and Poland through Denmark , was solemnly opened last Tuesday.
The total capacity of Baltic Pipe is 10 billion cubic meters per year.
The Polish government has stated that the republic plans to replace Russian gas with gas supplies via the Baltic Pipe. Poland previously received from Russia up to 10 billion gas per year through the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline.
Earlier, the Polish oil and gas concern PGNiG announced that it has a diversified portfolio of gas sources for Baltic Pipe, which includes both the purchase and its own production of PGNiG Upstream Norway, which will ensure the supply of about 6.5 billion cubic meters of gas to Poland from Norway in 2023 and around 7.7 billion in 2024.
