MOSCOW, October 1 – Novosti. The suspension of gas supplies through Austria was caused by regulatory changes in this country, Gazprom said on its Telegram channel.
“Transportation of Russian gas under the contracts of Gazprom Export LLC through the territory of Austria has been suspended due to the refusal of the Austrian operator to confirm the transport nominations,” the report says.
They clarified that the reason is related to the regulatory changes that took place in Austria at the end of September, and assured that they are working on a solution to the problem together with Italian buyers.
In the Austrian town of Baumgarten on the border with Slovakia , there is the Central European Gas Hub – an international gas trading platform, which is one of the three largest in Europe . About a third of all Russian gas supplies to Western Europe pass through it , including that supplied through the Nord Stream gas pipeline .
In recent months, deliveries via Nord Stream have been significantly reduced due to problems with the repair of Siemens turbines caused by Western sanctions. And on September 26, a gas leak was discovered at Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 , and in four places at once. Operator Nord Stream AG said the accident was unprecedented and it was impossible to estimate a repair timeline.
The Kremlin called the incident an act of international terrorism. According to President Vladimir Putin , “sanctions are not enough for the Anglo-Saxons”, they have begun to destroy the pan-European energy infrastructure.
