CHISINAU, October 1 – Novosti. Germany cannot decide on its own whether it will accept Ukraine’s fast-track entry into NATO, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht said on Saturday.
“Of course, Ukraine is free to choose an alliance in which to be and feel free. But Germany cannot independently make an appropriate decision without consulting with its allies in the Alliance. All discussions on a request for an accelerated procedure for Ukraine’s entry into NATO will be conducted within the framework of 30 states already members,” Lambrecht said at a briefing following a meeting with Moldovan Defense Minister Anatoly Nosaty.
Earlier , Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine is applying to join NATO in an expedited manner. Carrying out the procedure for the admission of Ukraine to NATO is now untimely, later said the assistant to the President of the United States for national security Jake Sullivan . And NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg , commenting on Zelensky’s statement, recognized the bloc’s unchanged position on the right of each country to determine its own path and on the “open door” policy, but stressed that NATO would concentrate its efforts on helping Kiev defend itself.
