YEREVAN, Oct 1 – Novosti. An Armenian serviceman shot dead his colleague at a combat post, mistaking him for an enemy soldier, the press service of the country’s Investigative Committee reported on Saturday.
Earlier, the Armenian Defense Ministry stated that late in the evening on September 30, the body of a conscript soldier, Private Hrachya Karamyan, born in 2003, was found at the combat position of one of the military units with a gunshot wound.
“According to preliminary data, on September 30, at about 23.40 (22.40 Moscow time), a conscript who was on duty, hearing the sound of footsteps, mistook a colleague approaching him for an enemy soldier, and, in violation of the rules of combat duty, fired a burst at him from a Kalashnikov assault rifle,” – says the website of the UK.
It is noted that as a result he received fatal gunshot wounds.
“The shooter was detained on suspicion of committing a crime under the article” violation of the rules of combat duty or combat service. A criminal case has been initiated,” the statement said.
