MOSCOW, October 1 – Novosti. Experts are starting to work on the conservation of Moscow fountains for the winter, which will last until the end of October, according to the Telegram channel of the capital’s municipal economy complex.
“Specialists of the municipal economy complex are starting work on the conservation of fountains for the winter, which will last until the end of October. First, water is drained from the system of each structure, bowls and sculptures are cleaned and washed, pipelines are blown, then the technical equipment and lights of underwater illumination are dismantled. Fountains with complex engineering communications and decorative elements are protected for the cold period with special structures,” Deputy Moscow Mayor Pyotr Biryukov is quoted in a message .
It is noted that in all large city fountains, in order to avoid water hammer, the pumps are switched off sequentially.
“Draining the water from the bowls takes from 15 minutes to several days, depending on the size of the structure. For example, water from the light-dynamic fountain in Gorky Park takes about six days,” the report says.
It is specified that at present there are about 600 fountains in Moscow, among which there are traditional, “dry”, floating, musical and light-dynamic ones. The fountain season traditionally begins at the end of April, all fountains are turned on almost simultaneously, with a difference of half a minute.
