ROME, Oct 1 – Novosti. Gazprom has warned oil and gas group Eni that it will not be able to provide today’s gas supplies due to the inability to transport it through Austria, the Italian company said in a release.
“Today, the flow of Russian gas destined for Eni through the Tarvisio checkpoint will be at zero levels,” the statement said.
At the same time, Eni promised to provide updated information in the event that supplies of blue fuel are resumed.
Since February, the share of Russian gas in Italian imports has fallen from 40 percent to a ten percent, with local authorities reassuring that they will cope with the shortage in the coming winter with alternative fuel sources.
In early September, the National Association of Users of Public Services, Assoutenti, announced that Italy ‘s gas reserves would not be enough to supply all citizens, and the accumulated resources would only cover winter energy needs for a period of no more than 45 days, after which “chaos will come with strict rationing, freezing of houses and stop the activity of industrial enterprises and business.
In addition, the country adopted an energy saving plan, according to which gas consumption should be reduced by 5.3 million cubic meters, the heating season will be 15 days shorter, and the temperature for heating buildings will be reduced by one degree.
After the start of the Russian special operation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine, the West stepped up sanctions pressure on Moscow. Many countries announced the freezing of Russian assets and began to work out ways to turn off energy from Russia. These measures turned out to be problems for Europe and the United States, provoking an increase in food and fuel prices.
