Kolokoltsev awarded an Izhevsk schoolboy who helped evacuate children

MOSCOW, October 1 – Novosti. Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev awarded a high school student who was wounded in a shooting at an Izhevsk school but helped evacuate other students, department spokeswoman Irina Volk said.
As noted in the ministry, during the attack on school No. 88, Alexander Sterkhov from 10 “B” showed courage and selflessness in conditions fraught with risk to life. He received a bullet wound, but despite this, he immediately went to the director’s office to warn of the danger.
“Thanks to the actions of the high school student, it became possible to quickly start the evacuation,” Volk explained.
Then the young man helped take the children to safety. At this time, rescuers noticed him and persuaded him to seek medical help.
The young man was awarded the medal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs “For contribution to strengthening the rule of law,” Volk said.
The attack on Izhevsk school No. 88 took place on 26 September. Her former student, 34-year-old Artem Kazantsev, shot 17 people, including 11 children, wounded several dozen, and then committed suicide. According to the authorities, he was registered in a psycho-neurological dispensary. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a T-shirt with Nazi symbols and a balaclava.
