MOSCOW, October 1 – Novosti. The British Ministry of Defense, despite requests from local authorities, does not resettle refugees from Ukraine in houses owned by the department, the Daily Mail reports .
It is noted that the head of the Wiltshire County Council, Richard Clover, spent months trying to persuade the ministry’s infrastructure organization to hand over the houses to the refugees. However, the department did not take action, despite the fact that some houses have been empty for several years.
“I am now on the verge of a housing crisis. I have 360 Ukrainian families who, most likely, need to leave the families that have adopted them,” Clover quoted the publication as saying. At the same time, according to the newspaper, the Ministry of Defense has at least 1350 houses in the county for the resettlement of military families.
The head of the Wiltshire council called the department’s inaction shameful.
The Guardian newspaper previously reported that at least 50,000 Ukrainian refugees in Britain could find themselves homeless next year.
