UN, September 30 – Novosti. Sabotage on the Nord Stream gas pipelines was beneficial to the United States, and not to Russia that built them or Europe that consumes fuel, said Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya.
“Is what happened with Nord Stream beneficial to the United States? Of course,” he said at a meeting of the UN Security Council.
Stopping the pipeline, the diplomat expressed confidence, was beneficial to American suppliers, and from a political point of view, the last thread that ensured the energy independence of the European Union was broken .
In the EU, he recalled, they supported the project, Russia also would not spoil the pipeline, the construction of which was financed, among other things, at its expense. “We consider actions to damage the gas pipeline as deliberate sabotage,” Nebenzia stressed.
The permanent representative also expressed confidence that “ordinary terrorists” could not be behind the attack. It could hardly do without the participation of the state or entities controlled by it, he pointed out.
Russia, he assured, would identify those responsible for the attack, and those behind this cannot claim a neutral status, which the West has already “violated long ago.” At the same time, Nebenzya noted that any investigation into the sabotage without the participation of Russia would raise doubts about its objectivity.
The Nord Stream 1 operator Nord Stream AG reported that the emergency on gas pipelines was unprecedented and it was impossible to estimate the repair time. The Kremlin called the incident an act of international terrorism.
