MOSCOW, October 1 – Novosti. President Vladimir Putin congratulated Russian servicemen on the Day of the Ground Forces, according to the Kremlin website.
In his congratulatory telegram, the head of state emphasized that the Ground Forces played a key role in ensuring the defense capability of Russia, reliably guarded its sovereignty and independence, defended the inalienable right of the people to a peaceful life and creative work.
“The courage and courage of soldiers and officers, shown by them on the fields of large-scale battles, in which the power and glory of Russian weapons were tempered, and the traditions of military brotherhood were strengthened, will forever remain in the history of Russia,” the congratulation says.
In addition, Putin noted that the current composition of the Ground Forces strives to be worthy of its predecessors, which manifested itself during a special military operation in Ukraine – some formations were deservedly given the honorary name “Guards”.
The head of state wished the servicemen success and all the best.
The Day of the Russian Ground Forces was established by presidential decree in 2006 and is celebrated annually on October 1.
Their history dates back to the time of Ivan the Terrible – on October 1, 1550, the tsar issued a decree according to which a thousand “service people” were convened in Moscow, archery regiments and a permanent guard service were created, and artillery was allocated to an independent branch of the military. Thus, the first permanent army of the Russian state appeared, which had signs of a regular army.
Modern Ground Forces are the most numerous and diverse type of Armed Forces in terms of weapons and methods of combat operations, designed to repel enemy aggression in continental theaters of military operations, protect the territorial integrity and national interests of Russia. They include motorized rifle, tank, missile troops and artillery, air defense troops, reconnaissance formations and military units, engineering troops, troops of radiation, chemical and biological protection, as well as communications.
