Russia failed to achieve re-election to the ICAO Council

WASHINGTON, October 1 – Novosti. Russia failed to achieve re-election as one of the members of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Novosti was told in the press service of the organization in response to a written request.

“We have announced the results of the vote that took place this morning,” ICAO replied, attaching a link to the answer.

Voting to elect countries to the ICAO Council, which includes 36 states, takes place every three years. Members are elected in three groups. In the first group, in addition to Russia, there are ten other countries, namely: the USA , Great Britain, Japan, China, France, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Germany and Italy.
From the updated list provided by ICAO, it follows that, according to the results of the vote, only Russia failed to be re-elected to the Council of the organization.
Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, urged not to use this organization for political purposes, turning it into an instrument of political pressure or the fight against objectionable governments.
