CHISINAU, October 1 – Novosti. A group of demonstrators from the second largest city in Moldova, Balti, joined the protesters in a tent city in the center of Chisinau on Saturday, Novosti was told in the press service of the Shor party.
Chisinau is hosting the 14th day of protests by supporters and representatives of the opposition Shor party. The demonstrators are outraged by the unprecedented increase in prices for gas, other energy resources and food, as well as high inflation and falling living standards. The protesters accuse the authorities of failing to cope with the crisis, point to a record inflation over the past 20 years, which in mid-summer amounted to 33.5% on an annualized basis. The country’s leadership is criticized for its unwillingness to negotiate better gas prices with Russia , as well as for political pressure on opposition representatives. Last week, in the square in front of the parliament, protesters formed a tent “City of Changes”.
“Now we are preparing for a large-scale action, which will take place on October 2. We expect a large influx of people. Today, our supporters from the city of Balti visited the City of Changes,” a spokesman for the party said.
According to him, on Sunday, the demonstrators will hold another rally calling for the president’s resignation and holding early parliamentary elections.
The Shor party became the only political force that officially supported the anti-government protests of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists. In June, the party gathered on the main square of Chisinau more than 40,000 demonstrators who expressed dissatisfaction with the current government. The leader of the political force, Ilan Shor , who left the country in 2019 after a corruption scandal, called on his supporters to continue the protests until the resignation of the current leadership of the country.
