“The shelling in the area of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant has not stopped. And its safety is alarming. According to the IAEA , all six reactors are turned off. And the last power line, which guarantees the safety of the nuclear power plant, was damaged as a result of shelling at the end of December,” said Zhang Jun.
Power transmission resumed only last week, the diplomat recalled.
“This should not happen again. And all military operations that may affect the safety of nuclear power plants must stop immediately,” he added.
Zaporozhye NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper. It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity . Since March, the station has been under the protection of the Russian army. According to the Foreign Ministry, this is necessary to prevent the leakage of nuclear and radioactive materials. Ukrainian troops continue to regularly shell Energodar , the surrounding villages and the territory of the ZNPP adjacent to the city.
