MOSCOW, January 17 – Novosti. In the presence of chronic diseases, one should not dive into the hole entirely, warned the press service of the Ministry of Health.
“In the presence of chronic diseases, you can wash yourself in the hole, and not immerse yourself in the water entirely,” the message says.
It is noted that it is necessary to refuse bathing in the presence of cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart failure, heart rhythm disturbances or myocardial infarction.
When diving into an ice hole, short-term stress can most likely lead to an exacerbation of the disease with the development of such serious complications as myocardial infarction, hypertensive crisis or heart rhythm disruption, the Ministry of Health explained.
In addition, it is not recommended to swim if a person has symptoms of respiratory diseases, including SARS, influenza and COVID-19, especially if the temperature rises, the press service noted.
Dipping in the hole is also contraindicated for children under seven years old, the press service added. It is necessary to prepare the body of an older child for swimming in cold water at least a year in advance, it is best to start with small physical exertion, gradually hardening the child’s body. A sharp immersion of an unprepared child in the ice water of an ice hole can cause, among other things, a panic attack, as a result of which respiratory arrest may occur, the Ministry of Health emphasized.
The Baptism of the Lord is one of the main Christian holidays. By tradition, on the night of January 19, Epiphany bathing takes place. On this day, believers remember an important biblical event – the baptism by John the Baptist in the Jordan River of Jesus Christ .
