BAKU, Oct 2 – Novosti. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan reacted to the statement of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, accusing Yerevan of hypocrisy.
Earlier, video footage of the execution of presumably Armenian prisoners of war by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces was circulated on social networks. The Armenian Foreign Ministry called on the international community to increase pressure on Azerbaijan and condemned new and past videos “evidencing war crimes by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, extrajudicial killings and torture of Armenian prisoners of war, including women, desecration of their bodies.”
“The statement of the Armenian Foreign Ministry dated October 2, 2022, alleging the commission of war crimes by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, is an example of the hypocrisy of a country that has pursued an aggressive policy for decades, violated the basic rights of almost a million people and committed numerous war crimes against military and civilians,” – The press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.
The press release notes that “unlike Armenia, Azerbaijan takes its international obligations seriously, and claims related to crimes committed during military operations are investigated by the relevant state institutions.”
“The Government of Armenia has not taken any effective measures to prevent the war crimes committed or to bring the relevant persons to justice for the crimes committed. We strongly condemn Armenia’s attempts to mislead the international community and hide its responsibility by spreading unfounded statements. We demand that Armenia fulfill its international obligations and Those responsible for numerous war crimes have been held accountable before the law.
