Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and the current head of the country, Jair Bolsonaro, who will fight for the main post in the state on Sunday, have completely different points of view on many issues, but they agree on one thing – the situation in Ukraine must be resolved through dialogue.
Volodymyr Zelensky wanted a conflict with Russia , otherwise he would have negotiated, Lula da Silva said in an August interview with Time magazine.
“Sometimes I watch (Zelensky – ed.) … speak on television, they applaud him, he gets a standing ovation in parliament … I don’t know (Zelensky – ed.) … but his behavior is a little strange. He seems to part of the play. He’s on TV morning, afternoon and night. He’s in the British Parliament, in the German Parliament, in the French Parliament, in the Italian Parliament, as if he’s running a political campaign. And he should be at the negotiating table,” the politician said.
He noted that people are inciting hatred for the Russian Federation, “but this is not a solution to the problem.”
“We need to reach an agreement. But people encourage (conflict). You encourage this guy (Zelensky), and then he thinks that he is the cherry on your cake. We should have a serious conversation,” Lula da Silva said.
The presidential candidate noted that if he wins the elections, he intends to meet with representatives of Russia and Ukraine.
“If we win, and (the conflict) … is not over yet, we will talk with them,” the politician said, adding that the crisis is of no interest to anyone, “only arms sellers, and we want to sell culture, books, food” .
Bolsonaro, who visited Moscow shortly before the start of the special military operation and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin , noted the cooperation between the two countries in a number of areas – in defense, the oil and gas sectors, and agriculture.
“I know what the solution should be, but I will not get ahead of myself,” Bolsonaro said in an interview with CNN ahead of the conversation with Zelensky.
“How did Argentina ‘s war with Britain end in 1982? That’s where it’s going. We’re sorry, but the truth is that there are things that hurt, but you have to understand that,” Bolsonaro added. The war for the Falkland (Malvinas) Islands ended with the defeat of Argentina.
In September, speaking at the UN General Assembly , Bolsonaro again criticized the sanctions against the Russian Federation, which are damaging the global economy.
“The consequences … are already affecting world prices for food, fuel and other goods … We support all efforts to reduce the negative economic impact of this crisis. But we do not think that the best way is to apply unilateral sanctions. These measures violated economic recovery and hurt the vulnerable, including in Europe,” Bolsonaro said.
In his opinion, the solution to the crisis can only be achieved through dialogue.
