CHISINAU, October 2 – Novosti. Participants in a mass rally of the opposition Shor party in Moldova launched yellow helium balloons into the sky with a cardboard image of Igor Grosu, head of parliament and leader of the ruling Action and Solidarity party, attached to them, Novosti correspondent reports.
In the capital of Moldova on Sunday, another mass protest rally of supporters and opposition representatives is taking place. They set up additional tents near the presidential administration building, in addition to those that have been located in the park in front of the parliament since September 18.
“Igor Grosu believes that one day, having become the chairman of the parliament, he will always be able to hold this position. It’s time to send him to the dustbin of history, down with Grosu,” protest leader Dinu Turcanu said from the stage.
After his words, a cardboard figure of Grosu was launched into the sky to the song of the Russian singer MakSim “I let go.” A week earlier, the figure of President Maia Sandu also symbolically flew away .
According to the organizers of the protests, 40,000 people from all regions of Moldova arrived in Chisinau on Sunday, but there should have been more demonstrators if the police had not prevented them from reaching the capital.
The protesters are outraged by the unprecedented increase in prices for gas, other energy resources and food, as well as high inflation and falling living standards. The protesters accuse the authorities of failing to cope with the crisis in the country, point to a record inflation over the past 20 years, which in mid-summer amounted to 33.5% on an annualized basis. The country’s leadership is criticized for its unwillingness to negotiate better gas prices with Russia , as well as for political pressure on opposition representatives.
