MOSCOW, October 2 – Novosti. The LPR, DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions retain their current names when admitted to the Russian Federation, follows from the text of the decisions of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation.
The Constitutional Court (CC) of Russia recognized the treaties on the admission of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions , to the Constitution of the Russian Federation .
“According to Article 2 of the Treaty under consideration, from the day Kherson Region was admitted to the Russian Federation, a new entity, the Kherson Region, is formed as part of the Russian Federation,” the decision of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation on the case of checking the constitutionality of the international Treaty between the Russian Federation and the Kherson Region on the admission of the Kherson region to the Russian Federation and the formation of a new subject within the Russian Federation.
The text of a similar decision of the Constitutional Court on the case of checking the constitutionality of the treaty between the Russian Federation and the Zaporizhia region states that a new subject is being formed as part of the Russian Federation – the Zaporizhia region.
“According to Article 2 of the Treaty under consideration, from the day the Lugansk People’s Republic was admitted to the Russian Federation, a new entity is formed as part of the Russian Federation – the Lugansk People’s Republic,” the text of the ruling on the case of checking the constitutionality of the treaty between the Russian Federation and the LPR says. The text of the resolution on the verification of the constitutionality of the treaty between the Russian Federation and the DPR also indicates the name of the new entity – the Donetsk People’s Republic.
In the text of the ruling on the case on the verification of the constitutionality of the treaty between the Russian Federation and the LPR, the Constitutional Court also notes that if a foreign state is admitted to the Russian Federation as a new subject of a foreign state, this subject is granted the status of a republic, unless an international treaty provides for granting the new subject the status of a territory or region.
“With this in mind, granting the Lugansk People’s Republic the status of a republic does not contradict the Constitution of the Russian Federation,” the text of the resolution says. Giving the DPR the status of a republic also does not contradict the Constitution.
