Protests in Romania drew 10,000 people, organizers say

CHISINAU, October 2 – Novosti. An anti-government protest is taking place in the center of Bucharest at the initiative of the AUR party, more than 10,000 people take part in the action, dissatisfied with the increase in utility tariffs and inflation, said the leader of the political formation, MP George Simion.
An anti-government protest takes place in Bucharest on Sunday in front of the Cabinet of Ministers. Before it began, protesters defiantly burned utility bills.
“At the moment, more than 10,000 Romanians have gathered here, people from all counties are here, expressing their dissatisfaction. This is not a protest of the AUR, not a protest of George Simion, this is a protest of disgruntled citizens,” Simion told the audience.
According to him, non-parliamentary political formations, non-governmental organizations and unions, members of some unions and employers are participating in the protest action. He assured that the protest action would continue in the coming days until the authorities responded.
“We will not go home, we will continue to protest in the coming days, day after day if necessary, because this is the last form in which we can force the government to take some necessary measures to stop inflation, return to a regulated market, fire some ministers who turned out to be absolutely incompetent, and, of course, to force Prime Minister Nicolae Chuca to leave,” the MP added.
At the same time, the Romanian police say that about a thousand people are participating in the action.
