
MOSCOW, October 2 – Novosti. The Russian team won six gold medals at the Open International Astronomy Olympiad for schoolchildren, the press service of the Ministry of Education reported .
“The Russian team won first place at the first Open International Astronomy Olympiad. The absolute winner was Ekaterina Bobkova, who this year graduated from the Specialized Educational and Scientific Center (Faculty) – a boarding school named after A. N. Kolmogorov of Moscow State University. All members of the national team received gold medals Russia,” the statement said.
The competition consisted of four rounds (theoretical, practical, observational and express rounds), the participants solved theoretical problems and completed practical tasks, some of which were developed on the basis of scientific articles.
As specified in the department, the Olympiad was held from September 26 to October 2 in Saransk , it was organized at the initiative of the coaching staff for astronomy of the Russian national team with the support of the Ministry of Education and the head of the Republic of Mordovia Artem Zdunov. Representatives of eight countries took part in the Olympiad remotely.
The preparation of the national team began last summer. Out of almost 120 winners and prize-winners of the All-Russian Olympiad for schoolchildren in astronomy, six people were selected who showed the highest results. The selection and training was carried out by the coaching staff under the leadership of Boris Eskin.
In preparation for the Olympics, summer training camps were held from June 30 to July 17, and a training session was organized for the Russian team as part of the installation camp at the Sirius Center, the Ministry of Education added.
