BRUSSELS, October 2 – Novosti. After the approval of a new package of European sanctions against Russia, the permanent representatives of the EU member states can immediately announce the next one due to the entry of new territories into the Russian Federation, a source in the EU told Novosti.
On Friday, the media reported that the EU countries had reached an initial agreement on a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, the final decision is expected next week.
“Discussions also continue on the next, ninth, package of sanctions against Russia, as the referendums held by Russia have accelerated negotiations. I expect that the official approval of the eighth package of sanctions may immediately be followed by the announcement of the ninth package of sanctions,” the source said.
In addition, an EU source confirmed the initial agreement reached on Friday.
On September 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke in the Kremlin following the results of referendums in the DPR , LPR , Kherson and Zaporozhye regions , after which he signed agreements with their heads on the admission of regions into Russia.
The West stepped up sanctions pressure on Russia over Ukraine , which led to higher prices for electricity, fuel and food in Europe and the United States .
