MOSCOW, October 2 – Novosti. British Prime Minister Liz Truss and King Charles III disagreed over attending the UN climate change conference COP27, writes the Times.
The newspaper reported that the British monarch, being a passionate environmentalist, abandoned the idea of attending the event at the urging of the head of government.
He planned to give a speech at a meeting of world leaders in Egypt. Truss, who is also unlikely to travel to the Sharm el-Sheikh summit, objected to the king’s plans during a private audience at Buckingham Palace last month.
The publication believes that this decision is likely to increase tensions between Truss and Charles III . A Downing Street source for the Times says the discussion on the issue was “welcoming” and “there was no scandal”.
“The fact that His Majesty will not physically attend the summit does not mean that he will not find ways to attend,” he explained.
Another interlocutor of the newspaper noted that the king would be “disappointed” if he did not go to the event.
