
ALMA-ATA, October 9 – Novosti. The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Kazakhstan at a meeting on Sunday decided on the compliance of the chairman of the committee of the agro-industrial complex of the presidium of the national chamber of entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan “Atameken” Zhiguli Dairabayev with the requirements for candidates who run for the upcoming presidential elections.
“The Central Election Commission has established that presidential candidate Zhiguli Moldakalykovich Dairabayev meets the requirements imposed on him by the constitution and the constitutional law “On Elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan,” said CEC head Nurlan Abdirov .
A candidate for the presidency of Kazakhstan must be a citizen of the republic by birth, living in the territory of Kazakhstan for the last 15 years, having a higher education. The candidate must be at least 40 years old, have an active suffrage, have at least five years of experience in public service or elective office, and be fluent in the state language.
In accordance with the decision of the CEC, Dairabayev will be given sheets to collect signatures in his support. The CEC previously reported that in order to register a presidential candidate, at least 118,273 valid voter signatures must be collected for him. The candidate registration phase will end on October 21st.
Extraordinary presidential elections will be held in Kazakhstan on November 20.
The candidacy of 67-year-old Dairabaev for participation in the presidential elections was put forward by the party “Auyl” (Village).
As of Sunday, six candidates for the presidency have submitted documents to the CEC for registration as candidates. In addition to Dairabayev, the incumbent President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev , the head of the Institute for Economic Research of the Astana International Scientific Complex Meiram Kazhyken, the head of the Astana branch of the opposition National Social Democratic Party (OSDP) Nurlan Auesbaev, public figure Karakat Abden and a former deputy of the Mazhilis (lower house of parliament) of Kazakhstan Nurzhan Altaev.
