BEIJING, October 9 – Novosti. The explosion on the Crimean bridge, less than a month after the Nord Stream attacks, opens a Pandora’s box in terms of destroying civilian infrastructure – the whole world will be forced to face growing security threats, say Chinese experts, quoted by the Chinese state newspaper Global times.
On Saturday, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee ( NAC ) reported that a truck exploded on the Krymsky Bridge in the early morning of October 8, causing the fire of seven fuel tanks of the train. There was a partial collapse of two automobile spans of the bridge. The arch above its navigable part is not damaged, the NAC said. According to preliminary data from the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation , three people died as a result of the explosion.
According to Cui Heng, a researcher at the Center for Russian Studies at East China Normal University, the damage to the Crimean Bridge and the sabotage of the Nord Stream are actions “tinged with terrorism” that are a sign that “the parties concerned are breaking the rules and ignoring military ethics, leading to further escalation of the conflict.
“In the short term, the conflict will escalate, and hostility between the two countries will reach its limit. From a broader perspective, once sabotage of basic infrastructure becomes the norm in this conflict, the entire world will face growing security risks,” Cui said.
The publication, summarizing the opinions of experts, notes that the explosion on the Crimean bridge “opens a Pandora’s box for the destruction of civilian and key infrastructure.”
Researcher at the Institute of Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Wang Xiaoquan believes that the impact of the bridge damage on the course of the conflict will be “rather limited”, since the logistics and transportation of forces for the Russian ground forces is not carried out from the peninsula.
