In the Philippines, prisoners tried to escape, taking the ex-minister hostage

MOSCOW, October 9 – Novosti. Police in the Philippines have killed three people held at a detention center in Quezon City after they attempted to escape, during which one of the detainees took the former justice minister hostage, the local PNA news agency reported, citing the police press service.
According to the police report, on Sunday morning, the detainees grabbed one of the employees of the detention center, who brought them food, and stabbed him several times. In response, another officer opened fire, killing two prisoners. At this time, the third detainee managed to escape to another room and took hostage the former Minister of Justice, Leyla De Lima, who was kept in the same institution. They tried to negotiate with him, but to no avail. All three prisoners were liquidated.
As a result of the incident, two law enforcement officers were injured. The ex-minister is now safe.
“Three detainees were neutralized, forensic experts are working at the scene. Tensions in the pre-trial detention center subsided, and the situation returned to normal, an investigation is underway,” General Roderick Alba, head of the police press service, said.
