MOSCOW, October 9 – Novosti. The British company BAE Systems said it was considering resuming the production of M777 howitzers amid increased interest in this weapon due to the special operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the Wall Street Journal reports .
According to the publication, at the moment the production of the M777 is being phased out.
“The company said that it is now in talks regarding the resumption (of production) with the US Army , which runs a weapons program. The US government must approve any overseas sales,” the newspaper said.
It is noted that a number of countries have expressed interest in acquiring the M777, in particular, the states of Central Europe. At the same time, it is not expected that the US army will decide to replenish its stock of howitzers.
BAE Systems estimates it will take 30 to 36 months to fully resume production of the M777 as the company needs new suppliers of titanium material and lightweight weapon components.
