TOKYO, October 9 – Novosti. The Japanese Ministry of Defense does not rule out that the DPRK launched submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) on Sunday night and is analyzing whether their type was similar to the missile tested in October 2021, NHK reports .
“According to the Ministry of Defense, given the launch point, there is a possibility that submarine-launched ballistic missiles were fired. The Ministry of Defense is also analyzing information on whether the type of missiles fired was similar to the SLBM tested in October last year and which flew at non-standard trajectory,” the channel said.
Earlier, the Yonhap agency reported, citing the South Korean military, that the DPRK fired two short-range ballistic missiles from the area of the city of Munchon, located on the coast of the Sea of Japan .
According to the Japanese military, both ballistic missiles fired by the DPRK flew 350 kilometers with a maximum flight altitude of 100 kilometers and fell outside the exclusive economic zone of Japan.
The last time the DPRK officially announced the testing of SLBMs in October 2021. At the same time, on May 7 of this year, after the next missile launch, the Japanese military department already assumed a possible test of SLBMs. At that time, however, the official North Korean press did not release any data, although it usually releases information about launches a day after the actual test.
North Korea has been launching ballistic missiles since the end of September in response to the refusal of the United States and South Korea to stop military exercises, which are considered in Pyongyang as a rehearsal for a war against the DPRK.
