MOSCOW, October 9 – Novosti. Russia is successfully addressing food security issues and is ready to contribute to solving global food problems, to help the poorest, developing countries, President Vladimir Putin said in congratulating agricultural workers on their professional holiday.
As the head of state noted, the agro-industrial complex is one of the key sectors of the Russian economy, year after year it demonstrates a convincing and worthy result.
“So, a record grain harvest is expected this year – about 150 million tons, including about 100 million tons of wheat. Until relatively recently, such figures seemed difficult to achieve. Good indicators for other crops, such as sugar beet, soybeans, sunflower,” – he said.
The volume of livestock products is also growing, Putin added. Agricultural producers, he noted, fully provide the domestic market with the most necessary types of products. Food security issues are being successfully addressed and export opportunities are growing.
“We are ready, I would like to emphasize this, to contribute to overcoming global food problems, to provide the necessary assistance to the poorest developing countries,” the president said, adding that this is a direct result of the efforts invested by workers in agriculture and the processing industry.
Putin thanked the workers and industry veterans for their work, wishing them well-being.
In Istanbul on July 22, two related documents were signed to address the problems of food and fertilizer supplies to world markets. Documents are a single package. The first one, the memorandum, assumes the obligation of the UN to remove various restrictions on the export of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to world markets. The second defines the algorithm for the export of Ukrainian agricultural products from the Black Sea ports controlled by Ukraine . However, as Moscow points out , in terms of exports from the Russian Federation, the deal does not work yet.
Putin has previously called ugly the decision of the European Union to remove restrictions on the supply of Russian grain and fertilizers only for European countries. Russia will sell its grain despite the restrictions, he said, but wants it to reach the poorest countries. Putin has repeatedly stated that grain is not supplied to the countries that were previously discussed.
