Sanctions violate right to life of Zimbabweans, National Assembly speaker says

MOSCOW, October 9 – Novosti. The sanctions are inhuman, they violate the right to life of the citizens of Zimbabwe, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Parliament of the Republic Jacob Mudenda said in an interview with Novosti.
He recalled that Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa , speaking at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly , called for the immediate lifting of all sanctions from his country.
“We would like to believe that the voice of our president has been heard loud and clear. These sanctions are not only contrary to international law… They have a debilitating effect because our financial institutions cannot access sources of financing for the country’s economic development. And most of all from the poor suffer because the government does not have enough funds to import medicines to provide for the poorest segments of the population,” Mudenda said.
He noted that access to medicine, to health care is one of the fundamental human rights, “this concerns ensuring the right to life.” “In this regard, we say that the sanctions are not just illegal, but completely inhuman, violating the rights to life of the people of Zimbabwe,” Mudenda said.
