SIMFEROPOL, October 9 – Novosti. The likelihood of an assault on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant by Ukrainian special forces and troops remains high, said Volodymyr Rogov, a member of the main council of the administration of the Zaporozhye region.
Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian troops damaged the last power line connecting the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant with the power system of Ukraine . The station switched to the operation of diesel generators for cooling the stopped power units and other technological processes.
“There are big risks here regarding the assault (NPP). They were and remain. The exercises (by Ukrainian troops) were carried out, I know of at least three exercises in the second half of September. fully prepared, dozens of speed boats prepared and dozens of high-speed pontoon crossings that themselves move through water barriers – all this was not done in order to organize competitions in water sports,” Rogov said on air of KP radio.
The intensity of shelling of the territory of the nuclear power plant is not decreasing, he said. As a result of the latter, the last power line was damaged, which connected the nuclear power plant with the territory controlled by Kiev .
The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin ordered earlier by his decree to transfer the Zaporizhzhya NPP under the control of Russia.
Zaporozhye NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near the city of Energodar . This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity – the plant has six power units with a capacity of 1 gigawatt each. Since March, it has been under the protection of the Russian military. The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that this step was justified in order to avoid leakage of nuclear and radioactive materials. The Ukrainian military continues to regularly shell Enerhodar and the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant adjacent to the city.
