MOSCOW, October 9 – Novosti. Former US President Donald Trump called on all parties to the conflict in Ukraine to sit down at the negotiating table as soon as possible.
He stated this while speaking to supporters in the state of Nevada.
“And now we have a [conflict] between Russia and Ukraine, while hundreds of thousands of people can die. We must come to immediate negotiations on a peaceful conclusion <…>,” he said.
After the start of the Russian military special operation, Moscow and Kyiv held several rounds of negotiations, but after the Ukrainian authorities abandoned their own proposals put forward at a meeting in Istanbul, the process was frozen. At the same time, Russia has repeatedly expressed its readiness to return to the negotiating table – such an appeal, in particular, was made by Vladimir Putin in a speech at the signing ceremony of agreements on the admission of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions to Russia.
However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky refused to engage in dialogue and in early October approved the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on the impossibility of negotiations with Putin. The Russian Foreign Ministry called this position wrong and subject to condemnation.
