MOSCOW, October 9 – Novosti. A group of members of the US House of Representatives have proposed withdrawing US troops from the UAE and Saudi Arabia in response to the OPEC + decision to cut oil production by two million barrels per day, the Washington Times writes .
The draft “Tensive Partnership Act”, presented by Democratic parliamentarians Tom Malinowski, Sean Kasten and Susan Wilde, provides for the withdrawal of the American contingent along with air defense systems, including the Patriot and THAAD complexes.
“The sharp decline in oil production in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, despite President Biden’s flirting with both countries, was an act of hostility against the United States and a clear signal that they have chosen the side of Russia in its confrontation in Ukraine,” the deputies said in a statement.
Earlier, the OPEC+ countries agreed to cut oil production by two million barrels per day from November, and take the production levels agreed upon for August as a reference point. The alliance explained its decision by uncertainties around the global economy and forecasts for the oil market. Despite the unfolding energy crisis in Europe and rising energy prices in other regions of the world, this step was supported by all participants in the deal.
On the territory of the UAE and Saudi Arabia there are American military bases with a contingent of up to several thousand people. In addition, the United States is training their armed forces – about 600-800 military personnel of each country annually trained in the United States.
