MOSCOW, October 9 – Novosti. Zimbabwe is interested in Russian investments – not only in mining, but, more importantly, in mineral exploration, Jacob Mudenda, speaker of the national assembly of the republic’s parliament, said in an interview with Novosti.
Russia is represented in Zimbabwe by diamond, gold and platinum mining companies.
“We have about 40 types of minerals, but we would like to know the exact reserves. At the moment, there is no exact estimate of how much we have, for example, gold, diamonds,” Mudenda said.
“This can only be assessed through intensive and extensive exploration, which is why I want to believe that Russian companies will be able to work together with our government. So that we know in detail what we have, then we can already substantively communicate with investors, represent our reserves and agree on production plans,” he said.
Last year, it was reported that Rosgeologiya was proposing to the Zimbabwean authorities to update the country’s geological maps in order to better unlock its resource potential.
