BRAZIL, October 3 – Novosti. The Brazilians will elect the country’s president in the second round, the incumbent leader Jair Bolsonaro and Luis Inacio Lula da Silva entered the second round, the country’s highest electoral court said.
“Elections are mathematically determined. The second round,” the inscription in the court’s official appendix says.
The first round of voting in Brazil took place on 2 October. The second round is scheduled for October 30th.
So far, 97.45 percent of the ballots have been counted, ahead of Brazil’s ex-president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva with 47.93 percent, followed by the incumbent head of state, Jair Bolsonaro, with 43.63 percent of the vote.
At the same time, earlier public opinion polls consistently showed the victory of the candidate from the left, Lula da Silva, and by a wide margin.
“During this whole campaign, we were ahead, according to the opinion polls of all institutions, including those that did not want us to win. And it always seemed to me that we will win this election, and I want to tell you that we will win this election . This is just a delay,” he said, commenting on the results.
The current head of state, in turn, questioned the reliability of the polls.
“We have defeated lies, now we have the second round ahead of us,” Bolsonaro said.
To win in the first round, it was necessary to score over 50 percent.
The rest of the presidential candidates are far behind, many of them did not receive even one percent of voters’ support.
