Germany responded to Poland’s demands to pay reparations

On Monday, Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau signed a note to Germany demanding reparations.

In his opinion, Warsaw chose not the best moment to sort things out – at the height of the political crisis in Ukraine .
Earlier, the Polish authorities said they were demanding 6.2 trillion złoty (about $1.3 trillion) from Germany in reparations for damages from World War II. The German government has repeatedly stated that they do not intend to make payments to Poland: in Berlin they believe that they have already paid fairly large reparations and there is no reason to question Poland’s refusal of reparations in 1953.
