MOSCOW, October 3 – Novosti. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin called the decision to accept new territories in the Russian Federation a fateful one, stressing that this is the result of the choice of millions of people.
“Before we move on to discussing cooperation between Russia and Belarus, I would like to say about the fateful decision made last week by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. A historic ceremony of signing agreements on the admission of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics , Zaporozhye and Kherson regions to Russia took place . This decision was the result of the choice of the inhabitants of these territories, millions of people,” he said at a meeting with the head of the government of Belarus Roman Golovchenko .
On Friday, four new territories became part of the Russian Federation. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed agreements with the heads of the LPR, DPR , Kherson and Zaporozhye regions on the annexation of regions to Russia and the formation of new subjects within the Russian Federation.
Referendums on the issue of joining Russia were held from 23 to 27 September in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. According to the results of processing 100% of the ballots in the DPR, 99.23% of those who voted for joining the Russian Federation, in the LPR – 98.42%, in the Kherson region – 87.05%, in the Zaporozhye region – 93.11%.
The public addressed the regional authorities with the initiative to immediately hold referendums. According to representatives of the republics and regions, joining Russia will secure their territories and restore historical justice. In their opinion, this decision is extremely necessary in the context of constant acts of terror by the Ukrainian authorities and NATO members, who supply weapons to kill civilians. Putin stated on September 21 that Russia would support the decision to be made by the residents of Donbass , Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
