YEREVAN, Oct 4 – Novosti. Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan stated that he had never witnessed talks about the possibility of Armenia joining the Union State of Russia and Belarus.
On Tuesday, the Haykakan Zhamanak (Armenian Time) newspaper, affiliated with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan , published an article signed “Reliable source”, which claims that the Russian Federation is allegedly seeking Armenia’s entry into the Union State of the Russian Federation and Belarus. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov called the publication “another nonsense.”
“I have not witnessed a single such conversation with our Russian colleagues. There are no such conversations and for me there cannot be. The independence and sovereignty of Armenia are not subject to discussion,” Simonyan told reporters. He ruled out a situation in which “he wouldn’t know about it if it happened.”
According to him, the head of parliament should not attribute to the desire of the authorities everything that is written in the media that can be associated with the authorities,
At the same time, answering the relevant question, the speaker said that he did not consider the source reliable. “No, I don’t think so, because I don’t have such information, and I don’t think that we should discuss something similar in Armenia,” Simonyan said.
