MOSCOW, 4 Oct – Novosti. Specialists of the municipal economy complex have begun the reconstruction of the Bolshoy and Nizhny Kachalovsky ponds in the south of the capital, Petr Biryukov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Public Utilities and Improvement, told reporters.
“Events have been launched to clean up and restore two cascade reservoirs located on the territory of the Bitsa park, their total area is 2.3 hectares. Within the framework of the project, we will carry out a set of measures that includes thorough cleaning of silt deposits, repair of shorelines and spillways” – said Biryukov.
The deputy mayor explained that the reservoirs were created in the floodplain of the Bitsa River, primarily to serve as large flow-through reservoirs for collecting river water and precipitation. With the help of supply channels and spillway systems, the volume of water entering the city drainage network is regulated.
“The work will take place in several stages: first, we will clean the ponds from silt deposits to slow down their overgrowth with aquatic vegetation, after that we will update the design of the coastline by laying natural stone on the concrete mixture. Local repairs of spillways and drainage systems of ponds will be carried out in order to restore their technical function reservoirs-regulators,” Biryukov said.
The head of the municipal economy complex emphasized that the Kachalovsky Ponds have a significant recreational potential, especially taking into account the improvement of the floodplain of the Bitsa River. Around them there is a three-tiered park with a pronounced relief, lowlands and heights, an embankment and a sports cluster.
The work is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2023.
