From the Volga to the Caspian Sea. Universities agreed to cooperate

ELISTA, October 5 – Novosti. Five agreements were signed by the universities of the countries of the Caspian region at the XXIV General Assembly of the Association of Universities and Research Centers of the Caspian Countries (AUPS) in the Great Conference Hall of the Government of Kalmykia.

“The agreements signed today will be a big step towards the formation of joint solutions to improve the environmental situation in the Caspian. Only together can we effectively create transport systems, agricultural projects, and preserve cultural heritage, while rationally reducing damage from anthropogenic impact,” commented the head of the Republic Kalmykia Batu Khasikov.

Representatives of the universities signed the Agreement on the Creation of the Volga-Caspian Consortium: Law and the Green Economy. The work of the association will be aimed at preparing an objective scientifically based assessment of the implementation of the principles of the “green” economy in the Caspian region, developing recommendations, as well as organizing research and project activities on the legal support of the formation of a “green” economy in national jurisdictions using the example of the Caspian Sea.
Another agreement is the creation of the International Youth Center for Monitoring and Protection of Nature in the Caspian region. It is expected that the center will act as a communication and monitoring platform for the implementation of various projects in the following areas: “Ecology of transport corridors and mining enterprises”, “Desertification problems in the Caspian region”, “Alternative energy sources and environmental protection”.

“Strengthening and developing scientific, educational and cultural interaction between universities – members of the Association of State Universities of the Caspian countries – is a priority for all of us. The research agenda is formed by such topics as: sustainable cities and towns, access to quality education, conscious production and consumption , conservation of the terrestrial ecosystem and development of partnerships.Other priorities include the creation of effective mechanisms for the development of the ethnic and cultural diversity of peoples in the Caspian region, the harmonization of interethnic (interethnic) relations, the strengthening of the humanitarian basis for the development of economic and cultural ties in the Caspian region, “said the rector of the Kalmyk State University named after . B.B. Gorodovikova Badma Salaev.
In addition, the universities of the Caspian countries signed the Agreement on the establishment of the International Center for Education and Career, initiated by the Alliance of New Generation Leaders.
“I note with satisfaction the youth agenda of the General Assembly and the work of universities on the Alliance of New Generation Leaders created in 2020, expanding the opportunities for building an individual educational trajectory for students and developing the volunteer movement,” said Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia, in a welcoming letter to the assembly participants.
Also, scientists (participants of the international temporary scientific team) signed an Agreement on the establishment of an international temporary scientific team “The concept of the transition of the Caspian states to a green economy: a doctrinal economic and legal basis and practical mechanisms for implementation.”
