
ANKARA, October 8 – Novosti. The Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Istanbul told Novosti that it receives requests from Russians about problems with the use of the Mir payment system in Turkey.
Bloomberg, citing an unnamed senior Turkish official, previously reported that Turkish state-owned banks Halkbank, Ziraat Bank and VakıfBank have decided to stop using the Russian Mir payment system. A representative of Ziraat Bank told Novosti that the bank no longer carries out transactions with Mir cards. The Turkish banks Isbank and Denizbank also reported about the termination of servicing Mir cards in connection with the sanctions of the United States and Great Britain against the Russian Federation .
“Regarding the problems of staying in Turkey , arising in connection with the termination of the use of the Mir payment system, separate appeals are received by the Consulate General,” the Consulate General told Novosti.
Speaking about the search for ways to resolve the problem, the Russian diplomatic mission emphasized that “due to its scale and specifics, the discussion of the search for the specified is not within the competence of the consulate general and local authorities.”
