BEIJING, October 9 – Novosti. The purpose of the explosion on the Crimean bridge was to undermine the authority of Russia’s top political leadership, Shen Yi, professor at the Faculty of International Relations and Public Relations at Fudan University in China, told Novosti.
On Saturday, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee ( NAC ) reported that a truck exploded on the Krymsky Bridge in the early morning of October 8, causing the fire of seven fuel tanks of the train. There was a partial collapse of two automobile spans of the bridge. The arch above its navigable part is not damaged, the NAC said. According to preliminary data of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, three people died as a result of the explosion.
According to the expert, if the sabotage at Nord Stream was aimed at “destroying the factor of compromise between Russia and Europe,” then one of the main goals of the explosion on the Crimean bridge was “strike on the authority of Russia’s top political leadership.”
“The Crimean Bridge is a specially guarded object of Russia, but the explosion nevertheless occurred on it. Judging by the fact that limited traffic was soon restored, this attack, in simple terms, did little harm, but became a great insult,” Shen Yi said.
At present, the professor believes, there are forces that want the conflict in Ukraine to escalate .
“Therefore, preventing these forces from getting the situation out of control will be a test for Russia,” he added.
