Prosecutor General called Turkey a key link in extradition to Russia

ANKARA, November 9 – Novosti. Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov thanked the head of the Turkish Ministry of Justice, Bekir Bozdag, for mediating the extradition of defendants in criminal cases to Russia.
“It was Turkey that became the most important link in the extradition and transit procedures for persons extradited by other states to Russia,” Krasnov said at a meeting with Bozdag in Ankara on Wednesday.

The Prosecutor General and the Minister of Justice also signed a new program of cooperation between the two departments for the next two years. According to Krasnov, one of its areas is the fight against information crime, including the criminal use of cryptocurrencies.
“In Russia, the relevant judicial and investigative practice has been developed, the legislation on digital assets is being updated, and the Central Bank’s digital ruble platform is being piloted. We have something to share,” the Prosecutor General said.
Speaking about the fight against cybercrime, Krasnov spoke about the draft universal convention on combating the use of high technologies for criminal purposes submitted to the UN Special Committee last year.
“The Russian approach to the document involves the criminalization of the widest range of acts in this area, since such technologies are widely used to promote extremist views, attempts to influence political regimes and the minds of ordinary people,” he recalled.
Western countries, in his words, reduce the understanding of cybercrime only to a narrow circle of computer crimes, “which, in our opinion, does not reflect the essence of the problem.”
