Matvienko called on Moscow and Minsk to jointly resist attempts to drive a wedge

MOSCOW, November 24 – Novosti. In the face of unprecedented external pressure, Russia and Belarus must work together to resist Western attempts to drive a wedge between our countries, Federation Council speaker Valentina Matviyenko said on Thursday during a meeting with the head of the upper house of the Belarusian parliament, Natalya Kochanova.
“Successes in the union building of Russia and Belarus, in the formation of a single socio-economic, migration, defense space – they do not fit into the picture of the world that the “collective West” is trying to paint for us, they are exerting unprecedented pressure in the hope of splitting the political, economic association in space CIS with the participation of our countries,” the speaker said. She stressed that, in the opinion of the Western countries, it is easier to push through us individually and force us to submit.
“They will definitely not succeed, we know how to jointly resist such illegal external pressure,” the politician noted. According to her, right now, more than ever, “we must be united and stop any attempts to drive a wedge into the union of our fraternal peoples.”
