“China is abstaining from voting on the resolution,” said Zhang Jun , Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China to the UN .
He stressed that the UN Security Council must be objective and impartial, and the parties to the conflict must find a way to a diplomatic settlement. The actions of the UN Security Council should be aimed at defusing the situation and resolving the crisis, and not vice versa, the diplomat said.
For its part, India’s representative to the UN confirmed that the country is abstaining from voting. “The escalation of rhetoric and tension is in no one’s interest, it is important to find a way to return to negotiations. Taking into account the whole evolving situation, India is abstaining from the vote,” she said.
The West, not recognizing the referenda on joining Russia, is showing double standards, Russian Permanent Representative Vasily Nebenzya pointed out earlier in the UN Security Council , recalling the recognition of Kosovo . There are other examples in history of the recognition by the West of the separation and annexation of territories without the consent of the states to which they belonged.
