MOSCOW, September 30 – Novosti. The admission of Ukraine to NATO will “nullify” the mistakes of the West, made since 2008, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba.
“Ukraine is already an integral part of Euro-Atlantic security. We do not yet have the Article 5 umbrella over us, but all NATO members are de facto under the umbrella of Ukraine, under the protection of our Armed Forces. Therefore, today Ukraine applied for NATO membership , the receipt of which in these new conditions does not require the provision of MAP (Membership Action Plan – ed.) and allows our partners to “zero” and not repeat the mistakes made since 2008,” Kuleba wrote on his page on the social network.
Earlier on Friday , Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine was applying to join NATO on an accelerated basis. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg , commenting on Zelensky’s statement, stressed that NATO will concentrate its efforts on helping Kiev to defend itself.
In 2008, the year of the Bucharest NATO summit, the Americans wanted to take the next step for Ukraine’s entry into the alliance – to agree on the so-called NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP).
