LUGANSK, September 30 – Novosti. Residents of the Lugansk People’s Republic gathered on Friday in the center of Luhansk to celebrate reunification with Russia, they are watching live the address of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Novosti correspondent reports.
“Such a touching moment, everyone has goosebumps, I’m sure that now the whole square is worried, this is a very important historical moment,” the presenter said from the stage, addressing the audience.
People with Russian flags and posters “Together forever!”, “People’s choice! Donetsk , Lugansk , Zaporozhye , Kherson , Russia!” live on the big screen watching Putin’s address.
Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called its goal “the protection of people who have been subjected to genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years.” After the liberation of a number of territories, referendums were held in the DPR , LPR , Kherson and Zaporozhye regions on joining Russia. In the DPR, 99.23% were in favor of joining, in the LPR – 98.42%, in the Kherson region – 87.05%, in the Zaporozhye region – 93.11%.
Ukraine and Western countries have announced that they will not recognize the results of the vote. Russia, in response to the UN Security Council , stated that by not recognizing the referenda, the West is showing double standards.
The press secretary of the Russian leader, Dmitry Peskov, said earlier that the ceremony of signing agreements on the entry of new territories into Russia will be held on Friday in the Kremlin. The day before, President Putin signed decrees recognizing the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions as independent territories.
